thank god i am home..

hey!
well this morning i didn't work, karen took the kids to baseball and so it was nice and quiet here, perfect day to sleep in. then at 9am, the house phone rang and i answered it and who could it be? it was daddy do :) was a nice wake up. he was calling to tell me that he was at the albert hotel in tamworth and that jack broughton was working there, and that i should know. cheers dad.
so anyways then i just lounged around the house until karen and the kids got home at around 2ish and i looked after them for an hour or so and they had a nap, which was nice.
so tonight i went around to a friends house because get this right, i had to drive them to a club in hartford so they could go out, I WAS THE DESIGNATED DRIVER! i have never, not once, been DD. so i watched the princess diaries and ate pizza while they got ready, hair, make-up, drinking.. while i did nothing. poor me.
we finally left home at 10 and it took about half an hour to get to hartford, which is the main city. the one in the front seat was giving directions, and she was half cut already so she was no help, we had no idea where we were going, but then like some sort of miracle, we just found it. so i dropped their drunk arses off and locked the doors. there were a couple of, shall we say 'gangs' walking about the place..
then while the stupid stupid GPS was taking its sweet old time to pick up a signal i had to drive around because there is nowhere to pull over. then i find myself on this round-a-bout, the first one i have seen in america so far, and it had signs to new york city on it and i was like shittttttttt, go back where you came from, go back where you came from!!!!
then it finally got a signal and started giving me directions, which were not the same way we had come.
so i end up on the highway, freaking out, almost crying because i have no idea where i am and i thought that the GPS was taking me to some other destination. and all the other cars were flying past me, the speed was like 50 and they were doing 70 (miles per hour) so i was the idiot that everyone screams and swears at in their cars, so i went a little faster, but not much because if i had of gotten done for speeding my LCC (local childcare coordinator) would not have been happy.
so i am still having a panic attack and the GPS is like turn right in 4 miles, and i'm screaming at it, like 'i don't know how far 4 miles is!!' i was really quite upset, as you can probably tell at this stage.
so all my thoughts of "oh my god im going to have to call karen and tell her i'm lost, and look like a stupid, useless au pair" went away when i finally saw a sign for avon. thank the lord.
so now i am home. in one piece. and i don't think i will do the girls another favour like that again.
goodnight everyone, i need to rest now. x

good day..

hello everyone!
today started off the same as every other day - cleaning, laundry, getting kids breakfast, dressed and out the door. this is when i got my first accent compliment of the day. the lady across the street whos daughter plays over here sometimes. she said it was 'beautiful' haha
then i watched a bit of the royal wedding with karen before she went to work - kate looked gorgeous - and then i watched greys anatomy and had a little nap.
when i woke up i showered, got out and just as i was brushing my teeth my phone rang, it was karen.
sooo harrison had an eye appointment and karen's mum was going to take him but her car wouldn't start so i had to.
standing there with a toothbrush hanging from my mouth, towel wrapped around me and my hair dripping wet, i accepted the challenge, to be out the door and in the car in 20 minutes.
so i finished my teeth, dried myself, whipped my hair from my towel and did the quickest blow dry of my life before wrapping it in a bun and putting on yesterdays clothes that were hanging on my desk chair.. anddd i made it.
so i picked harrison up from school which is where i got my second accent compliment from the office lady when i was signing him out. then after a half hour wait at the eye doctor and we were on our way back home.
then the kiddies dad picked up harrison and garret when we got home and they are at his house for the weekend and we have rachel and matthew here.
i made pizza for dinner, skyped with mum and chloe for about an hour and then got ready to go to the movies.
first stop ben and jerry's, yes rachel nelson, ben and jerry's, at last. no photos though because it was dark and cold but i'm sure i will go there again. by the way.. fan-bloody-tastic icecream, highly recommended.
then lauren, clara and i went to see 'prom' at the movies, we were originally seeing 'fast five' but decided to have a fast and the furious marathon before we do that. but prom was soooooooo good! cutest movie ever. and funny too. cute and funny, what more could you ask for. oh and a couple of hotties to top it all off.
then i stopped at maccas drive through to get a drink because i was dying of thirst on my way home, and the guy at the window said i had an awesome accent. i love being aussie in another country, people just love you automatically.
hm so now i'm home and i should probabley think about going to bed sometime soon.
oh and sandy, mum said you were disappointed in my lack of details in what i brought shopping last weekend, i will do better next time, promise :)
sorry i took so long to post tonight too guys.
grandma and serena i'm sure you think i had forgotten, but rest assured, i will never not post, for fear that you two may just die a little inside.
well thats all for now..
bye now. (that was just for you chloe rabbit) haha

not at all interesting..

hey!
well today, nothing happened. literally. apart from doing the usual kid related chores, i did nothing.
no baseball even. it was cancelled because there was a little crazy thunder and rain storm this arvo.
oh well actually, garrett went bowling with his cub scouts and matthew went to actual scouts while i stayed at home with harrison and rach. we just ate, played, went on the computer..
and then other then that my day was filled with laundry and greys.
i skyped with chloe and with mum and she is going to post me recipes so i can make them on a sunday night and have them for dinner every night for that week because i don't want to eat what the kids eat every night for a year.
and i don't think i ahve told you about the school buses here.. whenever there is a bus on the road that has its yellow or red lights flashing you MUST stop. like stop your car completely, just in the middle of the road. you can't drive around it or go slowly even, you have to stop. its for safety of the children or something..
and scratchies here have the lowest prize amounts. after working at a newsagency for so long you tend to know what forst division on the scratchies are, for example in aus a $1 ticket has a $25000 top prize, here it is $5000. in aus a $5 ticket has a $250000 top prize, here it is $50000. like seriously america, stop being such cheap skates.
oh and they also cover there arse for everything! on tv there is an ad for the pill, and at the end it says like blah blah may cause clots, heart disease yadda yadda you get the idea, and it goes on for like 30 seconds! and on the backs of tablets, medicine and even vasaline! can you believe it!? vasaline. it has a whole pull off thing explaining everything. its petroleum jelly for god sakes, what could possibley go wrong?
hm so there are a few other little facts for you.
have a good afternoon!
miss you x
p.s some emergency vehicle just zoomed past our house, scared the absolute crap out of me.

crazy weather..

hellooooo!
i will start by saying that i really do miss you all. its true when they say, you don't know what youv'e got till its gone.. i wish i could see you all! and i haven't had a drop of alcohol for going on 6 weeks now.. no sign of withdrawels yet ;)
so today, well just the usual cleaning, bed making, washing and so on this morning. and then i ran a couple of errands and came home and watched tv for a bit until the kiddies got off the bus.
after snack time, homework and playdates, we all went to harrison's baseball game (and we went to the right firld today, which was a bonus).
so when we left home this afternoon it was hot and sunny and we were wearing t-shirts and shorts and then, bam, as soon as we get to baseball, it gets all cloudy and starts to rain. i was not happy.
i had four kids complaining about the cold and the hunger, which i had plenty of snacks and drinks so that was fine, but we ended up huddling together to keep warm until the rain stopped lol
then pretty much as soon as karen got there i left and took the twins home with me and we ate, showered, pj'sd and then they went to bed. the others got home a couple of hours later and so i helped make them food and now i am watching greys.. yes, i am slightly addicted.
oh i went down into the basement while i was home by myself today, thats a pretty big achievement for me.. i literally have to pump myself up to go down there..
well other then that, nothing. and no america facts either. sorry.
night! x
p.s i apologise in advance for future blogs that may be slightly boring, as they are getting now, because i don't do exciting things everyday.

hectic.

hey!
well this morning, because of my super cleaning skills yesterday, was super easy and i had pretty much done everything before the kids had even left for the bus yet. impressive right?
so i re-organised my wardrobe and stuff and then watched the movie precious, which is so sad.
oh and the karens mum came around with some flowers and we talked for a bit outside in the glorious hot sunshine. seriously, it was hot today. shorts and a t-shirt weather, loved every second of it.
and then the hecticness started.
matthew had baseball practice so of course all the other kids had to come with me and it was a tad full on.
first of all we went to the wrong field and had to follow a nice lady to the right field which was a completely seperate location.
and then while matt was at baseball the other kids and i went to the playground, and i tell you what, trying to make sure three kids in all different areas don't break an arm, leg, face or whatever is hard work. and then one wants you to push them on the swing and the other can't reach the monkey bars and the other is hungry and needs to go to the toilet, all at the same time.
but i did get some really cute pictures! which i will post along with some pictures of the house.
so once that was all over we came home and had a really nice italian kind of dinner, thanks karen! and then i went to starbucks with the other au pairs. we have started making plans for our vacations and for new years, which we are thinking either canada or mexico, because then i can drink at bars! hurrahh!
oh and i dont think i have told you about our sink. one half is normal like aus, and the other is the food grinder/musher/really scary sounding food disposal. just like the movies.
and i am yet to see cheese in a can, like on 17 again, and he like 'i'm hungry, all the time!' and sprays cheese in his mouth. but i will keep an eye out.
um nothing else to say really.
miss you all! night xx

whoops..

hello australia!
well i nearly forgot about my blog today.. lucky mumma bear reminded me.
so grandma and aunty serena, you can breathe again now, you will get your fix for today lol
so this morning was fairly hectic. the kids had to get ready for school, and they were being ultra slow, and then the bus was running about 15 minutes late and so when they finally left i started the house work..
only took an hour and a half. pretty impressive for a two storey house and one person i say.
and then guess what i watched...
yep, greys anatomy. smart cookie arn't you lol
oh and i also watched dirty dancing. such a classic.
i have skyped with chloe, and pretty much just made stupid faces the whole time.
then i skyped with dad! for the first time! eeee! and i met sharon. she is lovely!
and i skyped with mumma bear, watched a bit of trinny and susannah through the webcam, and gossiped a little.
and now i am akyping with rachel nelson and stephanie peters. half the hodders.
oh and i didnt tell you guys about the two chipmunks i watched play chasies today outside my bedroom window.. so bloody cute.
oh and i blew up my lunch today. i put my pasta and sauce in the microwave and i forgot about it and then while i was packing the dishwasher i hear this huge, BANG, scared the crap out of me. so i open the microwave and there was pasta and meatballs and sauce, everywhere! it was hilarious.
and i'd just like to say that where i live is alot like where vampire diaries is set. i sooo would not mind if a damon salvatore popped on out of the woods for a little while ;)
so besides all that not alot has happened.
have a good afternoon guys! x

easter day.

hey!
well today the easter bunny came, but not to our house. well he did but nothing was hidden because the kids weren't here.
so this morning was just a normal morning, karen cleaned out some clothes and i watched greys anatomy. then we both got ready for easter lunch.
took a while because i had no idea what to wear, short dress, long dress, jeans and jacket, decisions decisions. so i ended up wearing my new (and first ever) maxi dress with a jacket and gold jewellrey and shoes.
when the kids got here we went around to karen's brothers house and pretty much just ate a whole heap of food. and you know when you have nibblies at the start well here in america instead of like carrot and celery, the have carrot and brocolli. raw brocolli that they dip into whatever. strange.
oh and also, easter is wayyyy different with the whole easter egg thing. they dont have chocolate here. only maybe one or two. they fill up plastic eggs with candy instead and thats what gets hidden.
and then they have big easter baskets filled with toys and clothes. so i have not eaten one chocolate easter egg yet. not one. and its easter day. blows your mind right? because if i were in australia i would have eaten about 500 by now.
and i have to mention, because big pud (aunty sam) neeeeeds it to be in my blog, that the water in the toilet and in the sink does in fact go down in the opposite direction to australia.
oh and the kids got silly string in their easter basket so they squirted it everywhere and all over me down in the basement and its super hard to clean up, so that should be fun tomorrow..
thats all today. i'm tired.
may actually go to bed early tonight.
goodnight. i miss you all. xx

loving the mall..

hey guys!
well its 12:15am here on easter morning and i'm sooo very tired, but i will still write, because i said i would, every day for a year.
so today i went to the mall. it was fantastic.
it was a rainy, miserable day so every man and his bloody dog were there and it took us about half an hour to get a park and when we finally did find one it was quite possibley the hardest park to get into. so i had to get out and direct lauren while she reverse parked her huge mini van thing and everyone was laughing at us.
so once inside i probably spent roughly $200. it was a big day. and i'll just say, that the shops are awesome! they are like undescribeable. they arn't even like clothes shops. they are like houses that you go into, but inside a big mall. and cheap! so so cheap! stephanie peters, you need to be here. you would die from the huge amount of bargains. h&m, in love.
and then tonight we went to friendlys for dinner, me and the girls, which was good. they are hilarious, and we had an awesome waitress, who brought lauren the wrong food and so then when she brought the real one we got to keep the other for free, score!
and then we went and saw water for elephants, it was a-maz-ing. to say the least. seriously, if you have thought about seeing it, see it now! once you get over the whole reece witherspoon and robert paternson making out, its absolutely jaw droppingly good.
so my drive home was a little scary. it was all foggy and freakishly similar to a horror movie. so i locked all the doors of the car, you know, just so the physco killer couldn't get me haha
and now i'm home and just skyped with the family, for the second time today. and when we said goodbye, mum cried, and then i cried and i realy wish she wouldn't cry.
anyway, thats all. i need to go take off my makeup, including my incredibley pretty new eyeshadow.
goodnight everyone. x

completely and utterly..

hellooooo!
well today was another fairly boring day..
i watched life as we know it which is sooo good and then burlesque. in australia everyone was saying how great it was and i didn't want to see it because i thought it would be just like moulin rouge or chicago.. but how wrong was i! it is the best movie ever, seriously.
i am completely and utterly in love! no one told me that mcsteamy from greys anatomy or the hottie vampire from twilight were in it. yummmmmo.
anyways, then i had to take a whole heap of clothes that i got from the kids closet the other day to the kids consignment. which is where parents take old kids clohes to this shop and they sell the clothes for you and you get the money back. cool right?
so i had a map and directions from karen of how to get there, but of course, i drove straight past it. after yet again another turn around i went there and dropped them off, and all was good. then i had to take the car to another little town over to use the power vaccum to clean the car, and when i first see it i get ready to turn and then, bam, straight into the wrong driveway and i find myself at the 'gas' station. as usual, i had to get out of my wrong turn, cross the road, and then go into the right place.
sooo the car is super clean inside now and the only things in there are things that are actually attached to the car. just how i like it.
oh and today when i came downstairs i glanced out the kitchen window and there was a squirral eating from our bird feeder! soooo cutteeee! i took photos, so you can all share in the cuteness.
oh and some random road facts here..
- they are super chill about the speed limit apparently. like if the limit is 35 and your doing 40ish, meh its coool.
- the postman doesn't drive a motorbike, he drives a van. which is a pain because they stop like in the middle of the road. and when you have mail, its just like the movies, you put your mail in your mailbox and then stick the little red flag up and the postie will send it for you.
- oh and the street names here are so sweet. like 'lovely street' and 'blueberry lane'
yep so thats about all guys. hope you had a great easter!
byee! x

Thursday, 21 April 2011

my oh my..

happy easter everyone!
so the kids all went to their dads this morning, so i have no kids for a few days.
with nothing to do all day, i watched greys anatomy and had a little sleep, and that is what my day consisted of, untillll i had to go get some grocerys..
holey moley. did i get lost.
at about 7ish i left the house and i didn't get back until around 8:30.
thats how long it took.
now its not far from here to stop and shop but i kept getting lost, like i seriously had to pull into a carpark to stop the car and refocus.
first of all i thought i was headed in the wrong direction to start with, but then realised i wasn't and kept driving. then i drove past the stop and shop complex and didn't realise until i drove past an extremely unfamiliar lake thing.. so i turned around and went back, driving past stop and shop again.
so i eventually found and went to the complex that i swore it was in and was about to call someone and ask for help when i realised that the shop was actually tucked up around the corner out of sight on the other side of allll the other shops. like i have been there before, you wouldn't think it would be that hard really.
so after i get the grocerys, which included head and shoulders because turns out this cold weather is making all of my skin dry, including my scalp, resulting in dandruff.. gross, i never ever never get dandruff. not happy jan, i got some dvds from the $1 vending machine and then tried to figure out exactly which way i came from. eenie meenie minee moe did not help.. i chose wrong and had to turn around for possibley the tenth time on this tiny little trip.
then i was stressed so i pulled into dunkin' donuts to get an iced coffee, which at the speaker box i asked for it with milk (because we all remember what happened at starbucks) and the guys like uhhh yeah, like i was a complete idiot. then when i got to the window hes like oh so your from england and im like uhhh do i have a stupid accent? haha i didn't really say that, but i should have.
anyways travelling home, i felt confident in where my turn off was at the lights and then, bam, drove straight past it. another turn around. then i finalllllly got home.
i made grilled chicken and pasta for dinner which was delish.
and then i skyped with mum and the family in coona!
and then the phone rang and i answered and i say 'hello' and the man says 'hello' and i'm thinking, my god he sounds like dad, and so i say 'uhm hi, its danielle' and the mans like 'yeah i know, its your father' hahaha
so thats what happened today.
i miss you all, wish i could have been there for easter!
night! x
p.s i saw a police car that had pulled someone over whilst i was busy getting lost, and i get anxious in australia when i see a police car, so imagine how far my heart sank when i am driving and have no idea what i'm doing in america.. not good. and they have every single light on when they pull someone over, like blinkers, headlights, top lights, everything.

exhusted..

hey!
today was exhusting. to say the least.
i got up at 8ish to find the kids eyes glued to the tv.. pryed them away for 2 seconds to make them eat breakfast and then it began...
think of the worst thing you have had to do, times it by four, add some impatience, a little bit of crying and a few screams and ta-da, you have what i experienced today.
i had to go through each childs wardrobe (actually closet, they say closet here and i keep forgetting) with them, and get them to try on every single piece of clothing they own. and when i say every piece, i mean like, 5000 shirts, 2000 pants 500 sweatshirts.. you get the idea. oh by the way, a sweatshirt is a jumper. and sweatpants are trackies.. just for further occasions.
now take a huge sigh of relief knowing that you didn't have to do this today lol
it was tough, but eventually we got four huge piles of clothes that didn't fit and the kids didn't want anymore.
now i know your all thinking, wow poor girl would have needed a rest after that, but ohhhh nooooo. guess what we did next?
we all had lunch, made by me, and then went to the indoor heated pool a few towns over.
it was me and my four kids, plus their nine other cousins with their nanna and aunty. so it became three adults versus thirteen children under the age of eleven.
getting them in the pool was the easy part. swimming for two hours was also bearable.. but getting out and ready to go.. lorrrdddyyyy!
soaking wet, hungry, sore eyed little children hudled into a change room with me trying to get them dry and dressed. now take another huge sigh of relief that that wasn't you either.
so then when we got home we played for a bit and then i cooked dinner and then we played again and now they are sleeping, hurrah!
oh and i just might mention that it was my first time driving a mini van thing, with four kids inside, on a highway, on the wrong side of the road.. i think its fair to say i top the best drivers list (for those of you reading from school) :)
well i think that just about does it.
p.s i will be quite happy if i never see another piece of lego or playdough again in my life. lol
p.p.s its really not as bad as it sounds, i am really enjoying it, i just make it dramatic for your entertainment :)
night! x

Tuesday, 19 April 2011

a whole day..

heyyyy!
oh my, i had all four kids today, at home, all day. eh.
well karen was here, so that eased the pain lol kidding. they were actually really good for me.
although tomorrow its just me and them..
so what happened. well alanna left at 11 this morning to go back to australia.. i'm pretty upset even though i only knew her for just over a week. its just now i have no back up, no answers etc when karen isn't here. i'll get used to it soon enough though.
and so because karen and the twins were at the airport for a few hours i stayed home with matthew while harrison went to a playdate. we pretty much watched tv all day. it was cold and raining and miserable and we just wanted to be lazy.
oh and we cleaned the kids rooms and the basement today! its all so clean and tidy!
i also finished reading my $3.99 cosmo :)
and we have coffee dates every tuesday night with all the au pairs at starbucks but i'm wayyy too tired tonight, so im just gunna skip it. we don't have to go anyway.
thats probabley it for tonight guys.
night! x

Monday, 18 April 2011

getting everything under control..

goodmorning australia! and other au pairs who enjoy reading this from america.
today i started my organising. first i went and got the kiddies schedules laminated, i made them last week, and now they are on the side of the fridge (my host mum loves them! woo!) so i can write whats on each day so i don't forget to pick them up/drop them off etc
i went though all the toothbrushes with them and let them choose two each to keep, one upstairs and one downstairs, because it is absolutely unbelieveable how many toothbrushes are in this house! and they now have brand new toothbrush holders to keep them in.
and i cleaned out their 'cubbys' which is where they keep their school bags and coats plus a whole heap of other junk. so now thats all tidy.
then tomorrow i will be doing the wardrobes, which ahh harrison keeps reminding me that they are called "closets" here. my bad.
and i don't think i told you guys that we don't have an electric kettle! its the one that you put on the stove and it whistles when its done! how cuteeeee!
and i have also decided that once i am settled i will start to make a huge meal on the sunday night and eat it for the following week. because the kids food is too processed for me. i'm way to used to mums delicious home cooked, non packaged, everything made from scratch meals everyday :)
hm i think thats all for today..
byeee! x
p.s i saw another few squirrals today. i am still amazed at their cuteness. i would soooo consider keeping one as a pet if they didn't have rabies lol

Sunday, 17 April 2011

a tad more exciting..

hello!
you will be pleased to know that today was a whole lot more eventful then my 'sit in bed all day' day yesterday..
so this morning we went to friendlys for brunch, which is a fancier maccas. it was nice, and soooooo cheap.
although, my eldest, harrison is allergic to nuts and he found some in his pancakes and so we complained, naturally, and they were like oh um yeah they used the wrong icecream instead of just chocolate, you should have told us he has an allergy when you ordered. and so my host mum went rank, because they were blaming us even though we ordered a 'no nut' meal. they ended up taking his meal off the bill and giving us a free meal coupon.
anyways, then we went to baseball for the twins practice. it was soooo cute. i will post pictures tomorrow if i have time. then to target, which might i add, is so much better then australia.
i brought some 'panties', tomato soup (59 cents each, can't argue with that), a little tin for my hair ties and bobby pins and four easter baskets that i filled with easter chocolate for my kiddies.
oh and i got a cosmopolitan, and ahhhh it was $3.99!!!!! i pay $7.95 in aus.
so i subscribed for the year.. guess how much? well it was a deal, you get cosmo and redbook every month, for a year, for $17.95. yes, $17.95. america continues to amaze me everyday.
like seriously, if you are ever broke, move here, stuff is cheaaappppppp!
and at this target, there is a pizza hut express and a starbucks inside.. like attached on the inside. so if your feeling hungry from all the shopping your doing, just pop on over and get a little pizza and coffee. problem solved.
and speaking of coffee, note to self.. when ordering an iced coffee in america, ask for milk. because otherwise they will literally give you cold black coffee with ice in it. excuse me while i vomit a little.
see your all learning from my mistakes, for when you eventually visit america. :)
also, i brought the new "5" gum today, its called 'react' and i'm guessing they mean 'react' in a sort of 'uhh this tastes and smells like the stuff footy guys rub on their backs, ankles, just sore parts in general, before a game' kind of reaction. dad will know what i'm talking about. i don't recommend it.
so um the kids only have school on monday this week because of easter, but if they think they are holidaying, haha i have news for them. were cleaning the basement, and other various parts of the house..
i'm such a great au pair.. teaching responsibility and cleanliness. lol
i know i sound mean, but they kind of want to help, because then i ahve to take them to wal-mart, everyones happy.
well thats about all for now. have a good afternoon!
miss you all! x

Saturday, 16 April 2011

sorry to disappoint..

hey guys!
today i did absolutely nothing. disappointing i know. i seriously just woke up ate, watched greys anatomy, ate, watched it again, had a shower and washed my hair, ate and now i am still watching it.
its my first real day off, sooo i thought i would just be really super dooper extremely lazy. when i woke up i just thought to myself 'today i don't feel like doing anything, i just want to lay in my bed' haha and so i did ;)
i subscribed to this site, netflix, and you pay $7.99 a month and get unlimited tv shows and movies, all day every day. which works perfectly because when the kids are at school i will now have something to do.
oh and i got my debit card today, its so pretty. it was my first piece of mail in america!
update on my mouth and ankle -
mouth, still swollen and hurts alot.
ankle, a tad swollen still, but it doesn't hurt anymore. thankgod.
and its been raining all day, and its still raining now. so peaceful.
i'm starting to miss you all. tonight my host family went to a friends for dinner and a movie, which i was invited to but i didn't go, and while i was at home it was my first time i felt lonely. no family, no friends, no animals.. :(
ah well. skype is good for that, even though my silly dogs won't look at the screen.
well greys is calling me.. best be off.
night everyone! x

Friday, 15 April 2011

not as bad as i first thought..

helllooooo!
so you know how i was saying that my wisdom teeth was killing me? well turns out i have an absyss in my mouth next to my wisdom tooth, equally as painful, less expensive to fix. i just gargle salt water every couple of hours, gag. just thought i'd let you all know so you can stop panicking ;)
so today i had a meeting with my local childcare coordinator to just check that everything was going okay.. she said that im already going greata nd am extremely mature and responsible for my age. yay!
then i went for my final driving lesson with my host mums dad.. i'm pretty much pro now haha
oh and i skyped with mumma bear and sister bear. that was nice.
but other then that, nothing.
oh but i will tell you that americans have an enormous range of cereals. and i was trying to pick the healthiest, a very hard thing to do, so i get raisen bran cereal, thinking 'oh it will probably be like sultana bran' but no. the bran has a shiney sugary coating on it. hopefully once i have eaten that i will find something that doesn't have sugar on it.
and i didn't mention how chill the speed limit is here? like if the speed sign says 40, you can do 50 and most likely not get pulled over.
ahh thats about it.
i hope it stays entertaining enough for you.
miss you guys. x

in agony..

hey!
i'm just going to start out by saying.. i want to chop the left side of my freakin face off! my wisdom tooth is killing meeeeeee. and the pain is now in the gum and my jaw and right at the underside of my neck. i take painkillers, numbing gel, everything! and nothing helps. argh.
hm besides that, today was another great day. i drove again! eeee! i'm not nervous anymore, its become second nature really quickly. except the americans love to not use their blinkers.. such a pain in the arse.
oh & when we went to the pharmacy to buy stuff for my mouth, mother bear this is for you, get yourself ready...listerine is $4.99 for a litre, all the time! cheappppp as!
and i had another nanna nap. yes i know, your all thinking, uhhh does she even do any work during the day? and yes i do, i just do it nice and quick :)
hmm for those of you who didn't see my fb status, rachel one of my kids who is six was hilarious today. so first of all we were doing homework and they wanted to go to avas house, and i said no, after your homework you can. so anyways the boys finished first and i told them they could wait out the front and play until rach was ready. in the end she was taking sooooo long so i told her to go out and tell the boys they could go without her. so she goes to the door that leads to the garage and yells to them "yo' boys, you can go to ava's house now" and then she screamas at the top of her lungs "avaaaaaaaaaaa, the boys are coming over!" (ava lives across the street) hahaha
and then at dinner, she was eating smileys (those potato things) and garrett was next to her and wouldn't eat his peas, and hes like "these peas are gross" and rachel turns her head with a 'don't be ridiculous' look on her face, with the bottom front bit of her mouth filled with a chewed up smiley and says to him "thats because they're covered in ketchup garrett." lol. it was absolutely hilarious. i cried from laughter.
other then that, i don't have anything else to say really. i cleaned out the fridge and freezer if that counts as something lol
and just now, i am watching americas best dance crew and they have a crew made of like 13 year olds, and they were awesome.
well hopefully tomorrow is more interesting for you.
goodnight! x

i'm a natural ;)

hey guys!
hope you had a great morning!
so what did i do today. well..
pretty much nothing at all. i watched a couple of movies, paranormal activity 2 with alanna because she hadn't seen it, and it scared that crap out of me again, just like the first time at the movies, when i actually cried i was so scared. and then 127 hours.. the director/producer must be mightttyyyy fine at their jobs because they made a movie of a guy being caught under a rock the whole time soooooo good! such a great movie.
then i washed my hair. and i broke my comb.. in my hair! crazy. so now i have a little tiny comb with no handle. ah well, still combs out the knots, which is handy.
and then.. drum roll please....... i drove in america! which is where the "i'm a natural" comes into the day. i was really scared at first but then after a few minutes it became fairly easy. there is still the urge to drive on the other side though, i'm sure that will soon disappear though, fingers crossed.
oh and i keep forgetting to tell you all, I BROUGHT A SNUGGIE! its so comfy, and its zebra print. comfy and sexy ;) reowwww. haha (stephyg you should be proud).
oh and my ankle is still a tad swollen from the near broken incident, which i'm really sick of, because i have one cankle.. not so attractive.
and one of my wisdom teeth is killing me! arghhh, it hurts, all the time.
oh and i went to a friends for dinner tonight. which was nice. there were six of us and we all brought a dish. very mature of us right?
so thats about it guys. no random american facts for today.. sorry to disspoint, theres only so much about america i can tell you all.
well, once again, blog to you all tomorrow :)
nightttt x

Tuesday, 12 April 2011

again, everything is so very cheap..

so today was extemely chill, i only had the kids for around two hours, the whole day!
so alanna and i (she is the currant au pair that i am replacing) went to micheals arts and crafts warehouse, which is huge and it makes my want to make a scrapbook soooo bad. they have everything. but i was just there to buy some pretty paper and stickers to make schedules for the kiddies.. i'm going to laminate them so they can be re-used each week.
then we went to stop & shop, which is a supermarket like woolies, to buy some snacks for me to have during the day at home.
a few things i must point out at this stage are -
1. they have dvd vending machines, all the newest titles for $1 a night! you just swipe your card and, poof, a dvd pops out. like magic.
2. i pay around $16-$18 for maybelline mascara in australia, ridiculous i know, but anyway, brace yourselves girls, here in america it is $7.50, yes you read that correctly, seven dollars and fifty cents, NOT ON SALE! i almost died right there and then. its the same with all makeup, average of $10 less per product.
3. they have no security measures what so ever. no little beepy things, no one watching the self serve checkouts, nothing.. so bizarre.
4. they sell the most random things. dvds for one, books, outdoor table settings etc and this is in a food supermarket!
okay so we left stop & shop and came home, had lunch and then a nanna nap. now lets stop right there for a second.. whilst getting ready for my nap i happened to glance out one of my bedroom windows and I SAW A SQUIRRAL! it was sooooooooooooooo cute! then when i went downstairs later this afternoon to check harrison was doing his homework, i happened to glance out the window again, and I SAW A CHIPMUNK! and it was also, soooooooooooo cute! i was so excited!
don't worry i got photos :) will post them tomorrow.
so tonight we went to starbucks with the other au pairs in the area and guess what? i found a penny. face up. "see a penny pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck". okay so it was technically night time, but meh, ima change it to "all night long". but thats cool right?
so other then that, pretty uneventful.
but i will give you some other american facts..
- they don't have clotheslines here. in some states its even illegal to have one and put clothes on it. so when im doing the kids washing everyday i just put it in the washer, then straight in the dryer. easy as.
- they also don't seem to have fences. like our yard and the next door neighbours yard are joined.
- i am also loving the commercials here. they are so entertaining.
thats about it for tonight. hope you have a really yummy lunch for today! i'm going to bed, its 11:18pm.
night! x

Monday, 11 April 2011

my first day..

well today was my first actual paid day of being an au pair! yay!
up at 7:30am and then just generally getting the kids ready for school.
when they were gone i did the housework, washing, cooking and looked after a sick child, sigh. :)
to all my followers, i can't go into great detail of my working day, just for pure privacy of the family and times i am home etc. so i will just talk in general from now on.
nothing drastic happened today though. had my first dinner with the kids, a bit hectic, trying to get them to eat and not talk or laugh at each other is tough, although they are pretty funny.
they are very good kids and they listen to me 95% of the time :)
they are also good helpers, which is convienient when i don't know where something is or if they are supposed to be showering in their mums shower or lying to me, so i ask the older ones and i believe them instead. turns out the ratbags weren't lying.
i am yet to see a chipmunk. but apparently they like to eat the bird seed from our bird feeder so i shall keep an eye out. & the only squirrals i have seen were dead in the middle of the road.
thats about it for today. have a good day australia!
x

loving it..

hm what to write today..
first of all, hey guys! hope everything is great in australia!
well today i went to town, again, and managed to spend about $120.. good day over all ;)
i got my new phone, which was an absolute nightmare to set up. its so complicated and you can't talk to an actual person! arghhh drove me mental.
besides that i got some bargain ipod speakers and clothes, of course. included in that is a boston red sox t-shirt because baseball season has just started and thats who i'm going for :)
wal-mart was fairly cool, although it is alot like a big w or target, and the layout is similar too so i felt right at home.
hm we went to macdonalds! and i got a small meal and the ships were huge and the drink was even bigger, and you re-fill as much as you like (like most food places here). oh and you also get your own sauce for nuggets, like there is a little 'sauce station' and you fill up a little cup with which ever sauce from the pump things. cool right? and sundaes are only $1.. no wonder the americans eat out all the time, everything is soooo cheap.
tonight we went to our LCC's house for an au pair meeting which was fairly fun.. there are alot of german girls here, and they all seem nice. we are all going to starbucks on tuesday so i will let you know how that goes. oh and the pizza she brought for us was huge, incredibley, super dooperlly, gigantically huge.
so tomorrow i have my first working day! i'm so excited! i already have everything planned that i want to get done for the week.. hopefully all goes to plan.
oh and just now i saw an ad on tv for 'red lobster' the resteraunt off easy A, the best movie ever, so i will have to make sure i go there this year sometime.
well thats about it for tonight, i have to go and write my 'to do list' before bed.. organisation is key lol
missing you all! love to everyone! night x

Saturday, 9 April 2011

they do that here?

hey everyone!
so today was my first outing in connecticut..
& this is what happened.
we went to the bank so i could set up my accounts which was sooooo longwinded. the simplest of things the americans seem to be able to make so very complicated and confusing. anyway so after they were set up the bank lady showed me how to depsit money - these are a few differences..
the atms are touch screen
you stick the money you are depositing in this slot and it counts it for you (up to 75 notes at one time!)
the bank is extremely open, like the tellers arn't even behind plastic stuff.
so after that gobsmacking experience we went and brought paint, for harrison's room, and then had lunch at some really good healthy fast food place for a change.
then off to the mall, which might i add is hugeeee! this place is sooo much bigger then expected. we went to target and brought me a microphone for my laptop and discussed buying a mobile with the lady there, who was all huffy and puffy about all our questions, like uhh your at work, its your job. but then we decided we would go to walmart tomorrow instead to see what they have.
came home and met the neighbours, they have THE cutest dog. its like a huge poodle thing and when it runs it like bounds, so funny. then rach and i did some puzzles (only two of the kids are here this weekend, the other two are with their dad). and we had chicken wings that were boneless, from 'wings' for dinner.. they were nice.
oh and guess what once this really famous baseball guy died and so they froze him, yes, they FROZE HIM! so that in the future they could make him alive again. this is not a lie lol. the americans really did this.
and also they have cheese flavoured biscuts that are called goldfish and anyways there are in a giant milk carton, like an oak carton haha
hm what else.. i am loving having two windows in my bedroom!
i will post photos now, sorry i ahve been so slack, so much going on at the moment, i will be better in future.
oh i skyped mum today! that was good. i gave her a tour of the house and she met my host mum and her boyfriend.
and dad is about to call.. dad if your reading this, beer for my horses was on the radio today, giddy up ;)
well i think thats about it for today.
i need to put more clothes on, its pretty chilly here, or as i like to say, "fresh".
goodnight! x
p.s i watched THE funniest epsiode of icarly tonight. it was hilarious. i couldn't breathe haha

Friday, 8 April 2011

arrived at my new home..

this morning we left the training school at about 9am and travelled by bus to connecticut..
on the bus i learnt spanish.. and succeded, te extranyo.
and then had to say goodbye at 1. waiting was maria, my LCC, and then my host mum picked me up.
it was wierd because i wasn't nervous at all..
we came home and i got a tour of the house and told what the current au pair, alanna, usually does with the kids scheduale. i have unpacked my room and i love it! its so cute and pretty.
anyways i need to sleep so i will let you know more tomorrow!
night x

Thursday, 7 April 2011

while you were sleeping..

where to start..
because so much happened i shall write in dot points of the highlights, pretty much everything..
- i took photos from the minute we entered manhatten (which i will post tomorrow sometimes)
- we went on a tour of nyc on the bus and our cool tour guide pointed out where the friends coffee house was, where sex and the city was shot and gossip girl (eeeee) and where all the famous people eat & live
- the M&M shop was superrrrrrr colouful. like gigantic tubes full of M&Ms
- toys'r'us was absolutely insane, the amount of toys in that shop was riduculous
- then forever 21, four flours of absolute heaven. i could have spent the whole day in there
- and victoria's secret smelt like heaven, and i brought 5 "panties" as they like to call it here, for $25. yay.
- the buildings are huge and there are thousands of people everywhere, it was so surreal, like i was watching a movie or something.
- all the taxis and police cars, look just like the movies
- oh and did i mention the massive arse cemetry we drove past, absolutely gigantic.
- and a guy with a sign 'need money for weed' hahahaha
- and steam, coming from the ground!!
- went to the top of the rockafella centre and took sooo many photos of the views, they were stunning.
- hm what else, the hotdog and pretzel stands (which i am yet to try)
- i also need to buy a 'i love ny' t-shirt
- and all the billboards are soooo bright.
- oh and i was "adopted" by the swedish girls.. i hung with them all day, and we all look like we come from the same country, convienient, and they are hilarious.
so thats about it. other then the fact that new york city is the most amazing place i have ever seen! there are no words to even explain how great it is. you will just have to go tehre yourself (:
so tomorrow we leave training school and go to our host families which will be so sad. all the girls have just settled and so i will miss them alot.
oh and one girl, maria andrea, we call 'tamal' because she wore an outfit that made her look like one (its a mexican food) hahahahahahaha
well anyway, its 12:15am here so i had better have a shower at least..
will blog again when i'm at my familys house!
love you all x

Wednesday, 6 April 2011

uh oh.

today i almost broke my ankle..
:/
i was walking down these huge marble steps and i wasn't looking at the ground in front of me, and then BAM on the ground. my ankle rolled when i trod on uneven ground. and it hurt alot. and it still hurts, alot.
besides that what happened.. hm..
we had classes again, the food is pretty gross at meal times, the chef is pretty grumpy etc.
oh and i haven't told you about last night..
so afetr i had a shower washed my hair blah blah i put my pj's on and went and called ma & pa and then wanted to call dad for his birthday (HAPPY BIRTDHAY DAD!) but didn't know how to use it to call a mobile so i went to the commonroom to ask someone and they were like having a party, it was international foods night. so i called dad and went back so i didn't end up going to bed early as planned. was a funnnn night. the mexicans and brazillians are crazy fun.
oh and today we had international sing-along, which was fun too.
we sang happy little vegemites :)
and just so you all know, this time tomorrow i will be in like times squar babyyyy! yay!
i shall leave it short and sweet tonight, tomorrows will be big, i assure you ;)
nighty-night x

Tuesday, 5 April 2011

let the classes begin..

hey everyone!
today wasn't very interesting buttt i will tell you what happened anyway..
well it actually started last night.. my roomie, sigrid from sweden, only got to new york at about 11:30 last night so i was woken up when she came in, and she came over to me when i sat up, and introduced herself.. i could have died, i would have looked soooo atractive.
anyways when she got up at around 6am i could see her using her torch to find things in her suitcase so i decided to get up so she could turn the light on. got ready and then called mumma bear for a chat.
breakfast was pretty good, bagel, again (: and then we had our first class.
it is a violation of our VISA if we don't do a certain amount of hours training before we go to au pair for our family. so classes are alright, pretty fun to talk to all the other girls from different countries (there are around 75 au pairs here this week, but our classes are in groups of about 20 or so) but then it gets boring when the teacher is explaining things really slowly because english is everyone elses second language and of course, being from australia i have the whole talking thing down pat.
we had a break then more class then lunch more class break dinner and now its over for today, thankgod.
apart from that, nothing happened.
just another random fact for you though.. on the back of the packets of food with the nutritional info, it has the contents in calories! not kilojoules. cool right? would be soooo easy for americans to calorie count.
yeah so tahts all for today..
im going to shower and go to bed. hope you all have a fantastic day! x

Monday, 4 April 2011

like heaven..

so today i ate my first bagel ever. and, it was "like heaven". like i love toast and so a bagel is like that but, on steroids. and is delicious with cream cheese, i think i even have the 'smearing' down pat, just like sandy on the OC.
anyways, besides eating a bagel for breakfast, i did nothing. today was our chill out day, to sleep, watch tv etc. i woke up at 6am, ew, and couldn't get back to sleep so i ahve been awake ever since. i am hoping that i sleep well tonight. and since i haven't done anything all day i will tell you just some random little america facts..
- the vending machine is soooo cheap. nothing over $1.15.
- the water in the toilet is really high. like really really high.
- the hot and cold water taps in the shower turn on in the opposite direction (so last night i was like why the hell won't the cold turn on, i was using both hands and trying to turn it, so i gave up and went to another shower, and, the same thing again. until i realised it turns on the other way) weird right?
and thats all the random things i have to say for today.
i'm sure this will be more interesting tomorrow. night!

Sunday, 3 April 2011

i'm finally here

i'm danielle and this is my blog.
i will write (or at least try to) everyday so that you all know what im doing.
for those who don't even know why i'm in america i am here for one year on a working visa. i will be in new york for the first week and then connecticut for the rest of the time nannying for a single mum who works at ESPN (yes boys, be jealous) with four kids...

about 30 hours ago, i left australia, headed for america. and this is how it went..
after saying one of the saddest goodbyes ever to my mum at sydney airport, i went and waited, all alone because mum couldnt come with me, in the boarding lounge. i spoke to dad, ma & pa, chloe, rach and stevie and tried, but didn't succeed, not to cry anymore. i looked for other au pairs in the crowd so i wasn't by myself but couldn't see any.. turns out i was the only one on my flight in the end anyway.
so i boarded flight UA870. the whole time i was praying that i would be sitting next to a hottie, or at least someone my own age, but, no such luck. i was in between.. wait for it.. an indian, who might i add snored like a freight train and hogged the arm rest, and an old man, who wasn't tooooo bad. he was texan and remined me of bullet off the OC.
lunch was first, chicken and rice which was pretty delicious. turns out alcohol was free so i happily drunk a couple of vodka and lemonades while chatting to the old man about how nice his wine was.
then there were a few movies, which were crap, so i ended up uncomfortably going to sleep. but then when i woke up i thought of the last thing grandma said to me, something like, make sure you dont get tuberculocis something or rather from sitting too long, sooo i went for a walk and a good old stretch. then back to my seat for more uncomfortablness.
then it was morning. i saw the prettiest sunrise EVER right before breakfast was served. it was gross so i won't even go there. about an hour later we arrived in san fransisco. after standing in a thousand person line at customs and then dropping my bags off, i waited in another thousand person line to go through security, which i passed, yay! then because that took so long i had to run, yes, me, danielle abbott running like mad through the airport, so i didnt miss my flight, and pheww i made it.
it was another seven hours on board but that was okay, it went fast. when we got to new york i couldn't stop staring out the windows, IT IS SO FREAKIN HUGE! as far as you could see out both windows was new york, all lit up looking beautiful. when i got off i collected my bags, both of them, thankgod, and found my little spanish dude waiting with a sign. walked outside, anddd  it wasn't even that cold, about 13 degrees he said. the drive took about an hour so i just looked out the window at people driving on the wrong side of the road, speed signs written in miles not kilometres and all the drive thru places. banks even :O
when we got to the college he dropped me to the dorms and i went to my room and had to unpack my bags because my shampoo and conditioner had leaked, great. not everywhere but on my pj pants and a shirt, which i hand washed. my hair treatment and beach spray also leaked but they were in plastic so that was okay. and now it is 1:28am on monday the 4th of april. i should probably have a shower and try to sleep.

i hope that wasn't too long winded for you, i promise they won't all be this long.
until tomorrow, bye!
p.s i forgot to mention -
just thought i would let you know that i forgot to tell you about the turbulance.
it was crazy!
most of the time it was just shakey and stuff, but then it went major hectic, even the air stewardess' had to sit down. it was right when everyone was finishing lunch and another round of drinks were being delivered that out of no where, BOOM, everyone went flying up in their seats (i now know why they make you where sealtbelts during the flight) as well as whatever drink you had in your cup, which was absolutely hilarious. mine flew up and landed on my lap, and the old mans next to me flew up and over him landing on my head (and i know your all thinking, oooh her hair got wet, but it was up anyways so i didn't mind, and i was too busy laughing) then after a few people screamed and a few kids cried, you looked around to see droplets of liqued dripping down off the roof.. hahaha
sooo now you guys know the highlight of the plane trip.
